Gallery Crawl
The Gallery Crawl app is a virtual platform expanding engagement in the visual arts to users living outside the city and/or those who do not have the time or resources to visit visual art galleries in person.
01
Problem Statement
The Gallery Crawl app is a response to a call for a virtual showcase of the five art galleries of a Pittsburgh non-profit. Following the pandemic, the organization saw a sharp decline in engagement and determined an app would help expand access to the arts for those residents and non-residents who do not have the time or resources to visit the physical gallery spaces.
02
Solution
A user-friendly gallery app that brings the enriching world of contemporary art to the hands of art enthusiasts regardless of their physical location or time and resource availability.
03
The Journey
Of course, I began with research. After surveying 100 residents the pain points emerged: Time, information, and accessibility. Users don't have time to go downtown, don't have enough information about exhibitions, and find the physical gallery space intimidating.
From paper wireframes, my design process expanded to MULTIPLE iterations of the various pages of the app. I am a perfectionist by nature and have a fierce thirst for knowledge. These iterations resulted in a design I could expand on and prototype with prospective users. The usability studies led me to MORE iterations.
Next Steps
Conduct further usability studies to ensure users are satisfied with the UI, accessibility, and journey through the app.
Content for all exhibition spaces will be added, including the public artworks throughout the city.

Result
The non-profit organization ultimately chose not to proceed with its plans for app development. However, I found the app design process enjoyable and enlightening. As a visual artist, I enoyed exploring the different galleries and continuously adding new content to my design file as a personal project.
I received encouraging feedback from users, with 85% finding the app valuable and expressing interest in seeing the final product in development.
